The Monster
Everything I touch isn't dark enough
After being raked against the coals by both of his younger siblings, who he'd been avoiding for the last twelve years purposefully, Will figured he had earned himself the right to disappear for a while. He'd been sick for quite some time and it took away his attention span because he could never focus on one thing for very long. It'd been weeks since he started his drug therapy and he'd told the doctors he was about done with it. He was tired of being drained of his liveliness, even if he never did much. He wanted to be able to read a book without having trouble reading it. He wanted to go for a run, he wanted to go to a bar and drink. He wanted to live his life the way he was supposed to before he kicked the bucket.
And so, with lots of arguing on his part, he'd made the ultimate decision of pulling himself from the medication. He would still be weak, he knew, but he would work towards strengthening his body on his own. He didn't need to be in a daze to be strong. He was on his way back from the hospital, already feeling a bit better about his decision, even if it did quicken his demise. He reached his floor and as he turned down the corridor towards his apartment, he found a small girl sitting in front of his door, yammering away incoherently. His approach only solidified who he had already guessed it to be.
Cassidy.
She was drunk, a complete mess and likely was pissing off his floor mates. If anything, he found it to be payback for the lot of them who were rowdy and obnoxious every other day of the week. Still, he didn't want to have to explain anything to anybody, so he knew he had to make quick work of getting her into the apartment. Will stopped in front of her and shook his head, "You've been giving my door and the entire floor quite a show, but I think you and I should go inside and get you some coffee. C'mon, Angel." He offered her his hand, pissed as he was at her. She wasn't in any kind of state for him to be angry though, and he was far too exhausted by the conversations he'd had with his brother and sister to get into it with her too.

Drunk yelling was probably the last thing Cassidy should be doing. Especially when she knew the person on the other side of the door was Will Spencer. She just had a lot of rage and Adrian's encouragement certainly did not help matters at all. Cassidy should have at least asked Adrian to come with her for moral support but no, she wanted to do this on her own, she said.
She didn't know how long she had been there but she had garnered about fifteen "Shut ups!" and about five middle fingers mixed with some very colourful language even Cassidy didn't dare utter. But she was too busy yelling her own obscenities at Will's door for neglecting his siblings and how shitty he had been treating her.
She ran out of steam about halfway through and slid down on the floor, almost passed out when she heard Will's voice coming from her side. Because she was terribly drunk, it didn't register in her mind that she had been yelling at an empty apartment so she started yelling at him even more.
"You should be ashamed of yourself, Will Spencer." She started saying, her words slurring into each other. With his hand stretched out, she smacked it away. "I can stand up by myself, thank you very much." The fact that she had been scrambling to do so for the next minute evidently proved otherwise. Her cheeks reddened when he used his nickname for her and for a moment, she softened. She missed hearing him call her that. Even when it used to hold such vehemence before.
"I like you Will, I really do. More than I should, but you're a huge pile of dicks if you think you can treat people the way you do." Her voice had toned down and she slumped against the door, visibly getting more upset than mad. "I don't like the way you made me feel so useless after you...you pushed me away." She sniffled before wiping at her eyes roughly.

The Monster
Everything I touch isn't dark enough
Her words made all of his anger deflate and he felt like he'd rather die a thousand deaths than continue to be told what a terrible person he was. It was for those reasons that he stuck to pushing people away. He wasn't a bad person, he didn't want to be, but he had to be. He had to push people away because it was easier to be an asshole than to be to blame for their grief later. She struggled against the door, and he stood by to watch because he didn't have the patience to argue with a drunk.
"Either you let me help you up, or I carry you inside like a child. I'm not doing this out here," His irritation was starting to spike, whether it was because he'd been continuously yelled at over the last week or so, or because he'd just taken himself off of his meds, he couldn't be certain. Either way, he was entirely finished with publicly announcing his issues to his neighbors. He'd run out of patience with everything.
While he tried to maintain a gentle tone with her, he could feel everyone watching them. "Cassidy, please. Just come inside with me. You can scream and cry and hit me as much as you feel like it in the privacy of my apartment."

Will's irritation made Cassidy just stare at him defiantly until he heard his tone shift. She knew she had been making a scene but in her drunken haze, she hadn't really cared until now.
Suddenly, she was fully aware of how she had been acting. Slowly, she grabbed his hand gingerly and pulled herself up. Lightheaded, she had to lean against Will, her head dropping on his chest. Briefly, she felt like she could stay in this position a while but she knew they had to move so people would stop staring.
She was slowly starting to sober up and reality was crashing down on her enough to make her want to curl up and die. She let Will walk them into his apartment.

The Monster
Everything I touch isn't dark enough
Cassidy took his hand and pulled herself up, staggering a bit. His arm looped around her waist to steady her and he took a deep breath in as she rested her head against his chest. Will stroked her hair with his free hand, "It's alright, luv. I've got you." Even if it was bound to be the death of him. He opened the door and ushered her inside, doing his best to ignore the people that were no doubt entertained by the whole ordeal. It took everything in him not to lose it on them.
With the door latching behind him, he shrugged off his jacket and he tossed it onto the chair nearest to them. He hesitated before he did anything else because he wasn't quite sure what to expect. Part of him wondered if she would hit him, or if she'd start crying again. He could honestly say he'd prefer the physical beating to any tears. Gingerly, he placed his hand on her shoulder, brushing her hair back, "I'm going to make some coffee, unless there's something else you'd prefer? I think I might have some tea or something else."
Will took a deep breath and sighed before he began to move away from her.

She wanted so badly to remain angry with Will but the moment he wrapped his arm around her, she was a goner. She didn't know why he made her feel safe despite having the very ability to inflict some serious damage on her.
Cassidy knew she needed to sit down before she passed out on the floor so she clung to Will, closing her eyes as he brushed her hair over her shoulder.
"Water. Just water." She said, letting him go when he started to move away. She stumbled a little but finally managed to get to his bed. She didn't know how fast it was but the moment she laid down, she was out.

The Monster
Everything I touch isn't dark enough
Will glanced over his shoulder and watched as she made her way to his room. Once he got the glass of water, he opened the cabinet to look for some kind of painkillers. Headache relief. His fingers closed around some ibuprofen and he grabbed both before following after her. Unsurprisingly, he found her curled up and passed out on top of his sheets. Will set the glass and pain meds down on the side table before he took a seat in front of the bed, snagging the book that rested beside her water.
Even with as late as it was, he couldn't find it in him to sleep. Hours passed and his eyes remained locked on the pages of his book. It was the first time in weeks that he'd just read and read for as long as he wanted. It wasn't until he felt stirring above him that he put the book down. He didn't turn to look at her, whether it was because he wanted to keep a straight mind or because he was still waiting for the anger, he wasn't sure.
"Pills are for your headache, and there's water to wash it down."

Waking up to a monstrous headache, Cassidy groaned loudly as she tossed in bed. She didn't expect to see Will and when she did, yesterday's memories came flooding back and she groaned even louder. "No no no." She kept repeating softly as she curled up in a ball, willing for everything to go away. But his voice permeated through her haze and she sighed softly, uncurling and grabbing the water and painkillers on the table.
Once the pills were gone, she scooted over to where Will was and sat on the floor with him.
"Yesterday..." she started before realising she didn't know what she wanted to say. So she kept quiet and looked down at her folded hands.
She wanted to apologise, but she also still wanted to know just how crappy Will had been treating people. She wanted him to know that she couldn't understand how someone could just abandon their siblings like that. She wanted to know what exactly happened to Will for him to act this way.
But she couldn't articulate it. Not in her state. So she looked at him, wishing he would say something that could magically wash away the hurt they had both been feeling the past couple of weeks.

The Monster
Everything I touch isn't dark enough
One word and he knew that what had happened wasn't on her list of most dignified nights. She sat beside him and he too kept his eyes on his hands in front of him. It was a rough situation that he'd put them in. For one, finding out that she was his little brother's best friend after treating her horribly and avoiding him from the very moment that he stepped foot in the States. And then to continuously ruin every tiny moment they had together because of his own insecurities.
He'd come to terms with the fact that he was a ruiner, more so after his conversation with Charlotte. He'd wrecked all of their lives, and yet, it was never enough to keep them away. Will sucked in a deep breath and raked his hand through his hair, "Yesterday...was a little rough. And while I know you would have liked to have handled things more eloquently, I think you said what you needed to." He paused and sighed, "But more so what I needed you to." This was probably the hardest thing he'd ever done, right up there with taking a punch from his younger brother without a single repercussion.
He still had the busted lip to prove it.
Will finally turned towards her, "I told you...last time, ya know, that I...I don't know how to do this. It came out wrong then, got read the wrong way. I just, it's not that I don't know how to do it with you, I just don't know how to do it at all." The words were escaping him and he wished he could just write it all out instead of speaking. He could only ever spout off sarcasm or memorized quotes from books. The nitty gritty never seemed to come out right. "I don't know how to maintain relationships. Any kind of relationship. With my siblings, my parents...you. I've never had to maintain anything. My best friend usually puts me on my ass when I'm being a dick and that's all of the maintenance it takes." Will found himself laughing a bit at the unorthodox friendship that he'd somehow kept alive over the last ten years.
He looked up at her and frowned, "Say something? Tell me I'm not butchering this..."

And just like that, Will somehow did exactly what she needed him to do. What she had wanted from him was honesty and she was getting it by the barrel. Her heart expanded when Will reassured her that she hadn't been the only one in the wrong.
When she was reminded of what had gotten her so upset with him, she bristled a little bit before closing her eyes and remembering that she hadn't wanted to open herself up to Will and that was why she put up her defenses the only way she knew how.
She gave a little smile when he mentioned his best friend and she bit the inside of her cheek to stop herself from smiling too much.
Looking up when he urged her to say something, Cassidy took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "You're not butchering it." She bit her lower lip and kept quiet for a while before hesitantly reaching out for his hand. She kept looking at him to see whether he would pull away.
"You can't maintain something if you don't let someone maintain it for you." She said, gulping a little, not really sure what she was even saying. "I'm...I'm willing to put you on your ass." She tried to say without laughing but failing poorly. "Sorry. I just...look, Will...I don't know how to do this either. I've never been with anyone who didn't see past my dad's reputation." She sighed. She hated talking about this part of her life. She sounded so weak. "I keep getting duped into relationships where they only wanted me to help them get into my dad's good graces."
She found herself tearing up slightly but thankfully it wasn't enough to fall so she closed her eyes and willed the tears away before continuing.
"You clearly knew nothing about me and I was so glad. And then...and then I started having feelings for you." She looked up at him and gave a small grin. "Just because we both don't know how to do this doesn't mean we can't try. Right?"

The Monster
Everything I touch isn't dark enough
Will felt very uncomfortable with all of the feelings and emotions that were starting to weigh down on the room. They were all good, he knew that, but diving into feelings was something he'd barely touched on with his therapist, let alone someone who could fully use it against him later. She had everything she needed to get back at him now. Information about his family, a direct line to what had happened to him. Information about his best friend, and information about his feelings towards her. She could annihilate him if she wanted to, and all he could do was hope that she wasn't anything like him.
As she spoke, he kept his eyes down, staring at her hand in his. Will even went so far as to hold it back. He waited for her anger to come still, but it didn't and he wasn't sure if that made him feel better or worse. Anger was so much easier to deal with for him. He glanced up and sighed, she did have feelings for him. She said it out loud and it resonated in him, at first making him feel cold, but then incredibly warm right after. If he died now, it would hurt her. If she knew he was going to die, it would hurt them both. Will reached up and absently tucked a strand of her wild hair behind her ear. "Try is definitely the word for it," He laughed shortly and let his arm drape around her shoulders.
"I do have to ask...how did you come across Miles? Of all people, you tutored my younger brother..." Will's eyebrows pulled together, struggling to get the last two words out. It was still a work in progress, the relationship he was apparently destined to have with his brother and sister. The three of them seemed to be a package deal, one that he hadn't even known he signed up for.

Had she been privy to his thoughts, Cassidy would have smacked Will right then and there. She had just confessed her feelings for him and that was his worry? The man was a smart one and yet he could be so idiotic in his mind.
It was really a good thing she wasn't privy to his thoughts.
The hair tucking gesture was one she didn't expect but welcomed happily. It made her feel quite shy as she ducked her head slightly to avoid letting him see the blush creeping up her cheeks. She adjusted herself and leaned into Will when he wrapped his arm around her shoulders. She gripped the front of his tee and tucked her head in the crook of his neck. It was a little uncomfortable but somehow it felt nice.
Miles was mentioned and Cassidy laughed with a shrug. "I know. I always get sent a stack of tutees folders and I honestly just picked at random." She shrugged, noting the strain at the last two words. She looked up and just noticed Will's busted lip. "How did you get that?" She asked, a hand moving up to brush over it.

The Monster
Everything I touch isn't dark enough
She leaned into him and he took a deep breath to keep himself in check. Being near her made him often lose his mind in a bad way. His anxiety was often through the roof when he was with her, but he knew that he just needed to remain calm and collected. This wasn't a bad thing, this was good. He had her, she liked him back and, well, things were okay for now. As long as he didn't do much more talking, things could continue to be okay.
The very fact that she'd happened across Miles randomly gave him no peace of mind. It was like the world was shoving his family together no matter how reluctant he was to accept them. With Miles and Lottie came Landon and Moira. He couldn't even express how little he wanted to do with his parents. It was far less than he wanted to deal with his siblings. He let out a sigh and cringed slightly at her question.
Odds were, she wouldn't like the answer. "Miles hit me."

Unaware of his inner conundrum, Cassidy remained in her cautious bliss. Though she was no longer waiting for the other shoe to drop, she did still feel like she shouldn't give in completely. She still didn't know when Will would suddenly burst but at least for now, he was being calm.
When he answered her question about his busted lip, she had to physically stop herself from laughing. With a hand clapped over her mouth, she squeezed her eyes and counted to ten before letting a slow breath out. "He did not." She breathed out before looking back up at him and stretching up to give the bruise a small peck.
She quickly ducked her head down on his shoulders again and sighed softly. "I'm sorry I made a complete idiot of myself last night." She apologised in a tone she had never used on Will. "And for occupying your bed. You must be tired." She said before sliding her arm aorund his waist with her other hand gently laid on his chest.

Her response, while it was probably justified, didn't sit well with him. Miles was like a sweet puppy where Will was like a perpetually annoyed cat. Of course she would think it was funny that the good one had hit the grumpy one. If roles had been reversed, she'd likely never speak to him again and he wasn't fond of that double standard. She pecked his lower lip and he arched an eyebrow, "Glad you think it's funny. Broke his hand on my face, so I guess it sort of was funny." He smirked because he knew that she wasn't going to like his answer.
Will ran his fingers through her hair as she rested her head against his shoulder. Her apology had him shrugging, "It's not a problem, luv. I'm sure you gave my door the proper verbal beating that I deserved." He smiled down at her and gave her shoulders a squeeze in what he hoped was a comforting gesture. She slid her arm around his waist and he involuntarily yawned at the same time that she spoke of him being tired.
"Well I wasn't 'til you mentioned it," Will gave her a bit of a smirk before pressing his lips to the side of her head. "I'm fine though, I dunno if I'd have slept anyway."
